Ipswich have started the 2022/23 campaign in an impressive manner, gathering 21 points from their ten league matches and sitting in second place in the League One table.

McKenna’s side were undefeated in the league for nine games and were leading the table before last Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Plymouth Argyle.

The Tractor Boys will face Portsmouth on Saturday, and the Pompey manager believes that Ipswich are a well-coached side with a squad full of excellent players.

Cowley stated that everyone in League One expects Ipswich to grab automatic promotion with the quality players they have recruited throughout this summer.

“Everybody in the division anticipates Ipswich making the automatic promotion places”, Cowley told The News.

“It’s the players they have, how well coached they are, the way they have started the season.

“If you finish close to Ipswich then you’ll probably have had a very good season.

“They’re probably doing it in a different way to us, they’ve had the opportunity to recruit some of the best players from their rivals, such as taking Marcus Harness from us.”

Ipswich has snared away Harness from Portsmouth this summer, and he has already scored five goals for the Blues this season.
