Aston Villa are looking for a replacement for the sacked Steven Gerrard, who was shown the door following a series of disappointing results and performances.

In the meantime, Aston Villa thumped Brentford 4-0 this weekend under the guidance of interim manager Aaron Danks.

However, Danks is not expected to continue on a permanent basis and Amorim is being considered by the Villa management as Gerrard’s successor.

The Sporting Lisbon boss is not the only name being looked at by Aston Villa though and they have other candidates they are interested in.

Amorim has a £10m release clause in his contract and Aston Villa have talked to his representatives, but he is not the only name under consideration.

The Sporting Lisbon coach has a good reputation in Portugal and led his side to breaking the FC Porto-Benfica duopoly by winning the Premira Liga title in the 2020/21 season.

It remains to be seen if he is willing to leave Champions League football with Sporting Lisbon, where his team have a chance of making it to the last 16, and head to Villa Park.
