Derby were relegated from the Championship last season and after an unsatisfactory start to life in League One this season under interim manager Liam Rosenior, the Rams appointed Paul Warne.
Warne has managed to steady the ship and steer Derby back to the top-half of the League One table.
Tonight, Warne will lead his team into a match against fifth-placed Portsmouth, who are on the same points total as Derby in the League table with a game in hand.
Pack, who was linked with Derby in the summer before joining Portsmouth, believes the Rams have a strong group and have started the season well despite going through administration and a recent takeover.
The Portsmouth defender is of the opinion that Derby will need some time to reach their desired success with a new manager in place, but he is confident that the team will be contending for promotion at the end of the season.
“Looking at Derby, they’ve recently changed managers so the style of play has probably altered a little, while they have brought in all these players at once”, Pack told The News.
“Success just doesn’t happen overnight.
“They’ve got some really good individuals, they’ve had a decent start to the season in relative terms with everything that has gone on there.
“And I’m pretty sure they will be up there at the end of the season.”
Portsmouth are undefeated at home this season and Warne’s side will be motivated to end Danny Cowley’s unbeaten run to go above them in the league table tonight.
