The Latics sacked Leam Richardson earlier this month following a run of six defeats in seven games and the club dropped into the Championship’s relegation zone.

Wigan have been looking at names to bring in a new manager and have time to make an appointment due to the World Cup break.

But it seems they are now set to appoint a rookie manager to take charge of the club in the latter half of the season and are raiding Premier League side Leicester.

It has been claimed that Wigan are in talks to appoint former defender Toure as their new manager.

He is part of Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff at Leicester but he has the ambition to move into management.

Wigan’s owner, Talal Al Hammad, has personally flown to London to finalise the appointment of Toure.

The 41-year-old is on the verge of starting his management career at Wigan in the coming days.

It would also be a historic appointment as the former Manchester City defender would become the first African to manage a club in English senior football.
