The Tractor Boys are second in the League One table with 45 points from 22 games before going into the Boxing Day fixture against Oxford United.
And with Panutche Camara, Dominic Ball and Tyreece John-Jules suffering through injury, Ipswich will look into the January transfer window to strengthen their team for the rest of the season to continue their promotion push.
Ashton admitted that the winter transfer window is always a tricky time but is confident that they will be able to bring in fresh faces.
The Ipswich Town CEO also joked that he would face trouble with McKenna if he reveals the positions the Tractor Boys are looking to bolster but stressed that the club will be busy during the upcoming window.
“You know the transfer window in January is always difficult”, Ashton told Ipswich Town’s in-house media.
“We have said publicly that we are going to try to bring some players in and I am convinced we will do that.
“I am not going to talk about positions with you two sitting here and get myself into worlds of trouble with gaffer.
“We will be active and it will be busy for sure.
“Looking forward to getting a couple more bodies in.”
After taking on Oxford on Monday, McKenna’s side will travel to Fratton Park to face fellow promotion hopefuls Portsmouth on Thursday.
