Moffi has been lethal in front of goal for Lorient in the French top flight this season and the club are facing a battle to hold on to him this month.

Southampton are making efforts to convince Lorient to part with Moffi as they look to add goals in their battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Now they are being rivalled for the striker by David Moyes’ West Ham.

The Hammers are also in trouble in the Premier League and want to snap up Moffi.

Lorient want a fee of £25m to let Moffi move on and it is claimed that their stance is making a move to Southampton less likely.

It is unclear if West Ham are prepared to meet the £25m price tag and in so doing gain a decisive advantage over Southampton in the chase.

Moffi, who was an unused substitute in a French Cup tie on Saturday, has scored ten times in just 16 Ligue 1 outings, including finding the back of the net against Paris Saint-Germain.
