The Colombian striker is a highly rated talent and his performances in the MLS with Chicago Fire have turned heads, not least in the Premier League.

It was claimed recently that Liverpool have made a concrete move to take the youngster to Anfield, but faced competition from Benfica.

Duran though is not going to either Benfica or Liverpool as Aston Villa have an agreement in place for him to move to the Midlands.

The Villa Park side said in a statement: “Aston Villa can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Chicago Fire for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old striker, Jhon Duran.

“The deal is subject to the player passing a medical, agreeing personal terms and obtaining the necessary work visa.”

Aston Villa will now be looking to put the finishing touches to the deal and put Duran at the disposal of boss Unai Emery.

Chicago Fire paid just €1.7m to sign Duran in January last year and while it is unclear how much Aston Villa are paying, are in line for a substantial profit.
