The 22-year-old forward joined Sunderland on loan in the summer and impressed with his performances at the Stadium of Light.

Former Everton boss Frank Lampard recalled Simms from his loan spell with the Black Cats in January.

However, the player has yet to start a game in Everton colours since his return to Goodison Park.

And, following a string of poor results, Everton sacked Lampard and replaced him with former Burnley manager Dyche.

Simms’ status at Everton is being closely monitored by Sunderland, as the Wearsiders want to re-sign the forward.

And it has been claimed that Sunderland are still holding out for a chance to sign the attacker during the current transfer window if he does not appear to be part of Dyche’s plans.

The Black Cats signed Joe Gelhardt on loan from Leeds United in January, and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to sign Simms to further strengthen their attacking line-up before the end of transfer deadline day.
