Nottingham Forest are prepared to let O’Brien move on from the City Ground before the transfer window closes after they landed Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle United.

Carlos Corberan has wanted to take O’Brien to the Hawthorns, but West Brom look to have been priced out and they have now withdrawn their interest.

O’Brien now appears to be at the centre of a tug-of-war between Blackburn and Sheffield United.

It is suggested that Nottingham Forest want any club that agree to sign O’Brien on loan to agree to a £10m obligation to buy in the event of promotion.

Sheffield United are expected to need to move Sander Berge on to be able to create space for O’Brien.

All eyes will be on where O’Brien ends up when the transfer window shuts this evening.

He has significant experience in the Championship and looks set to be plying his trade in the division again.
