The 18-year-old left-back is a product of the Everton academy and joined Southampton in the summer of 2021.

Southampton sent Small out on loan to Port Vale but recalled him due to his lack of game time with Darrell Clarke’s side.

Small has agreed to join St Mirren on loan for the rest of the season and Robinson is of the view that the player has been a great addition to his squad.

The St. Mirren boss also stated that the versatility of Small provides him with additional options on the left-side of the pitch and believes the Southampton youngster is going to add pace, strength and quality to the Buddies.

“Thierry is a young player with lots of pace and lots of energy”, Robinson told St. Mirren’s official site.

“He gives us another option on that left-hand side at left wing-back.

“Scott Tanser has played a lot of games with no competition in that area and if he got injured or we needed to change it for any reason we had no option, so it was important we brought someone in.

“He’ll bring us pace, energy, strength and good quality on the ball.

“We are looking forward to having him in and he’ll certainly add to the squad.”

Robinson’s team currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership and Small will be hoping to help St. Mirren at least maintain their position.
