Southampton sacked Nathan Jones over the weekend and are now looking to sort out the appointment of a new manager.

Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch is expected to become the new boss at St Mary’s.

Marsch was sacked by Leeds earlier this month, but is quickly bouncing back into management.

It has been suggested that the south coast club also considered the candidatures of Gerrard and Lampard.

The two high-profile ex-England midfielders are on the market after getting sacked from their respective jobs.

Gerrard lost this job at Aston Villa following a poor start to the season and Everton sacked Lampard in January.

They are looking to get back into management soon and were under consideration at Southampton.

But the Saints have a long-standing interest in Marsch and the American is the man they want at the moment.
