The London club sacked Neil Critchley recently after a harrowing run of just one win in 12 games and Ainsworth is the man they want.

The former QPR midfielder was on their radar when they appointed Michael Beale last summer and he was again considered before Critchley got the job in December.

QPR have already worked out compensation with Wycombe Wanderers to take Ainsworth to Loftus Road this week.

Talks are ongoing between QPR and the former midfielder over him becoming their new manager.

The 49-year-old is yet to give his approval to a deal and negotiations are still very much alive between the two parties.

Ainsworth has a deep relationship with Wycombe where he has been their manager for over a decade.

However, QPR are confident that he will be in the dugout by the time the team take on Blackburn this week.

The former midfielder did have two caretaker spells as manager at QPR before starting his management career at Wycombe.
