Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres is currently second in the Championship leading goalscorer charts, netting 14 goals in addition to registering four assists.

Sunderland come up against Coventry this weekend, after getting beaten by relegation candidates Rotherham United in their last Championship outing.

Mowbray thinks it is a test of character of the Sunderland team to see if they can bounce back against a tough trip away on the road to Coventry.

The Sunderland boss praised the style of play Coventry manager Mark Robins employs, while calling Gyokeres one of the most potent strikers in the Championship and is thus not taking the Sky Blues lightly.

“What’s interesting now is whether we can bounce back at the weekend in one of the tough away games against a totally different football team”, Mowbray said in a press conference ahead of the Coventry game.

“Coventry City are a football team who like to play with the ball and Mark Robins is a very good coach who has a system and a style of play and you’ve got to be ready for it.

“They will give us problems, they’ve got one of the league’s most potent centre-forwards playing for them and so it is a tough game.”

On the first matchday of the season, Sunderland were leading against Coventry by 1-0 but Gyokeres equalised for the Sky Blues late in the game.

The Black Cats will be hoping to keep the Swedish star quiet this weekend though as they look to bounce back from defeat and stay on track for the playoff places.
