The Trotters suffered their second defeat in their last three league games on Tuesday at the hands of John Mousinho’s Portsmouth side.
Dion Charles gave the visitors the lead early in the second half, but Ryley Towler’s brace and Colby Bishop’s goal from set pieces helped Portsmouth grab a win against Bolton.
Evatt argued that despite the fact that his team did everything correctly, small margins in the form of three set plays allowed Portsmouth to gain the advantage.
The Bolton boss also pointed out that tiredness from playing eight games in a short period of time was a factor in their defeat against Pompey and also hailed Fratton Park as a tough place for the visiting teams.
“We had done the hard part and got ourselves ahead”, Evatt was quoted as saying by The Bolton News.
“We looked relatively comfortable, [James] Trafford hadn’t had much to do before the first goal.
“But it is three set plays.
“We speak about the fine details, the small margins in football matches, and we have not done our jobs.
“It isn’t like us, really.
“We look like a team that has played eight games this month, fatigued and tired, and this is a really tough place to come.
“We will dust ourselves down and go again.
“The players have given everything this month.”
And Evatt believes that as well as weary bodies, Bolton had weary minds at Fratton Park, which contributed to the loss of focus at set pieces.
“I think it was mental fatigue. In general play we didn’t give away too many chances.”
Despite the defeat, Bolton sit in fourth place in the League One table and will look to bounce back at Morecambe this weekend.
