The Wolverhampton side’s relegation scare is over, as they have achieved an unassailable ten-point gap with 18th-placed Leicester City following a momentous 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Midlands club remained in the bottom three when the Spaniard replaced Bruno Lage as the manager, and he has got his side clear of the relegation menace after amassing 40 points with three games left.
Having stayed afloat, Lopetegui now insists this is the right moment for the club to deliberate on next season’s campaign and work on the next project for a good future.
He admits he has spoken to the chairman, but only about this season, and wants more talks.
“It is the moment to start thinking about the next project, we have to talk to the chairman, we have to hear him, what are his aims”, Lopetegui told Sky Sports News.
“For me, it’s very important to know his message so we can build together a good future, that’s why it’s important for me to have this meeting with the chairman.
“We have talked but only about this year but not next year.“
In their efforts to maintain their Premier League status, Wolves notched up some distinguished victories over the giants such as Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.
The Midlands club will be hoping to replicate the display they produced against Aston Villa when they take on Manchester United on Saturday and aim to finish the campaign on a high.
