The 22-year-old centre–back joined Portsmouth on loan in the latter half of the season and has impressed Pompey’s boss with his performances.

Bernard’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of June and the Red Devils have an option to extend his contract for another year, which they have yet to trigger.

Portsmouth want to bring Bernard to Fratton Park for next season and Mousinho stated that they are waiting to see what decision Manchester United will make on the defender’s future.

Mousinho also revealed that in the case of Manchester United deciding to extend the player’s contract, Portsmouth might have to wait further to see what Erik ten Hag has in mind for Bernard.

“We’re not sure [what will happen with Bernard]”, Mousinho was quoted as saying by The News.

“Manchester United have an option, so we’re waiting to see what Manchester United are going to do.

“That’s why there’s a bit of a delay on deciding what we do with Di’Shon.

“I think if Manchester United take an option we will see what their intentions for him are next season.

“If they don’t take up the option and he’s on a free, then it becomes an entirely different conversation.”

Manchester United have recently announced the names of the players who will leave them at the end of June and Bernard is not on that list.
