The 33-year-old centre-back made 27 league appearances for the Istanbul club last season and was a regular in Gunes’ starting line-up.

Saiss has one year left on his contract and is keen to move on this summer, with Everton and Nottingham Forest looking to bring him back to the Premier League.

Besiktas are aware that Saiss is keen to go, but have yet to agree a deal for his exit.

And Gunes stressed that Saiss is his best player and he wants the Moroccan to stay with them.

Gunes admitted that he is aware of the defender’s willingness to leave this summer but stated that he wants him to leave after winning the league with Besiktas.

“Saiss is my best player”, Gunes was quoted as saying by Turkish outlet Fotomac, adding: “He is not a player to give up.

“He has one more year on his contract.

“I also told this to the management.

“They said ‘he wants to leave’ and added other things.

“I want him to play for us and then leave.

‘Let him be a champion and leave that way.”

Saiss has also piqued interest from Saudi outfit Al Ittihad and it remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest and Everton will be able to convince the player to make a move to the Premier League.
