Shot-stopper Bass only joined Sunderland last summer, arriving from Portsmouth, but the 25-year-old found playing time hard to come by.

He only featured twice for the Black Cats, with both his outings coming in cup competitions, and his chances do not look set to be improved due to the presence of Anthony Patterson between the sticks.

Now League Two side AFC Wimbledon are pondering over making an approach to sign him.

The London club are admirers of Bass’ abilities and could offer him the chance to claim their number 1 shirt.

AFC Wimbledon want to reshuffle their goalkeeping options this summer and Sunderland man Bass could fit the bill.

Bass came through the ranks at Portsmouth and headed away from Fratton Park on loan spells with Salisbury, Torquay United, Southend United and Bradford City.

AFC Wimbledon finished fourth from bottom in the League Two table last season, conceding 60 goals in their 46 outings.
