Last season, Southampton went through a series of managerial changes before finishing bottom of the Premier League.

Now, Saints have appointed former Swansea City boss Martin to get them back in the top-tier of English football.

Martin, who has begun conducting pre-season training with the Southampton squad, believes that the opponents Saints are going to face in pre-season are going to be very tough.

And he is of the view that the more problems Southampton face against their opponents during pre-season, the better it will be for them, as the coaching staff will be able to help the players find solutions before the 2023/24 season begins.

“I think the level of the games is very tough, which I think is going to be very good for us”, Martin told Southampton TV.

“I think each game is going to pose a different problem and we are going to find problems in each game and then it is up to us to help the players find solutions.

“So the more problems we have in the next few weeks in terms of the games, the more problems they give us, the better for us, for sure.”

Today, Southampton will face Benfica in a pre-season game, which will be Martin’s first game in the dugout as Saints boss.
