Onana was expected to arrive in England last night ahead of completing a proposed move to Manchester United from Inter Milan.

He is expected to undergo a medical and sign a five-year contract today with the Red Devils ahead of joining the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Manchester United have agreed to pay a fee of €51m and another €4m in add-ons to convince Inter to sell the 27-year-old goalkeeper this summer.

Onana admitted that he loves taking on fresh challenges and the prospect of playing in the Premier League for Manchester United is an irresistible challenge.

He told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport: “The important thing is, to be honest and always tell people the truth.

“I am the kind of person who always wants new challenges and playing in the Premier League and a club such as United is irresistible.

“All parties wanted this to happen.”

Onana only had one year at Inter and conceded that he would have been happy to stay as well.

He stressed that he felt something truly special and magical in his only season with the Nerazzurri.

“But what matters is even if I had stayed, I would have been equally happy because I never had any problems at Inter.

“Indeed, a magic was born in Milan that is almost difficult to explain.”
