The Saints captain has been expected to leave the club since they got relegated from the Premier League last season.

Ward-Prowse is keen to continue playing in the Premier League ahead of next year’s European Championship and he has suitors in the top flight.

David Moyes has been eyeing a swoop to take him to West Ham and even Spurs are interested in the experienced midfielder this summer.

But it has been claimed that no club are yet to show the willingness to meet Southampton’s asking price for their captain.

Saints are said to be keen to get upwards of £30m for the England international in the ongoing transfer window.

His suitors, for the moment, are unwilling to pay such figures for the Saints captain at this stage of the transfer window.

Ward-Prowse could now start the Championship season at Southampton before getting his future sorted out towards the end of the transfer window.
