The midfielder is on the books at Premier League side Brighton, but is likely to have little in the way of playing time if he stays on the south coast.

Weir, 21, was sent out on loan by Brighton last season to Morecambe and clocked regular game time in League One.

He is tipped to again go out on loan and has interest from Reading, Portsmouth and Derby County, amid a host of League One sides asking about his situation.

However, Lincoln are not amongst the clubs in the running for Weir.

Lincoln finished in eleventh spot in the League One table last season and a move to Sincil Bank could be an attractive prospect for a loanee.

Weir made 51 appearances for Morecambe over the course of last season, scoring eleven times and providing five assists.

He turned out twice against Lincoln, scoring against them once and providing an assist.
