Villa’s preparations for the new campaign have been rocked by Buendia suffering the injury, which means he will be sidelined for a lengthy period.

Director of football Monchi has now swung into action in an attempt to deliver someone who can replace Buendia to boss Unai Emery.

His focus has been drawn to Turkey and Zaniolo, according to Sky Italia.

It is claimed though that Aston Villa do not currently have the financial resources to present the level of offer which would convince Galatasaray to sell.

As a result, they are holding talks with the Turkish side to take Zaniolo on loan, with either an option to buy or an obligation to buy included in the agreement.

Aston Villa do face competition for the Italian though.

He has a release clause of €35m in his Galatasaray contract which Russian side Zenit St Petersburg are prepared to meet, while Zaniolo would be offered a €9m a year deal.

There is also interest from Saudi Arabia, while Fiorentina would like to bring him back to Italy.
