The 26-year-old initially joined the club on an 18-month loan spell in January 2021, but Crystal Palace made his move permanent in the winter of 2022.

Mateta has failed to establish himself in the starting line-up and last season he scored only two goals in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace are in the market for a centre forward and Southampton’s Adams is high on their list.

However, it has been claimed that the Eagles will not make a move for Adams until they sell Mateta in the ongoing window.

Crystal Palace are not the only suitors for the Saints star, as Everton are also interested in him.

Mateta has three more years left on his contract with the London outfit and he is not key to Roy Hodgson’s thoughts.

Now it remains to be seen whether Palace will be able to offload the French forward in the ongoing window to go after Adams.
