Evans guided Stevenage to promotion last season and in the ongoing campaign, Boro are in fifth place in the league table.
Stevenage are now set to lock horns with Portsmouth today and John Mousinho’s team are so far undefeated in the league.
The 60-year-old tactician pointed out that big games like Portsmouth are the reason his side fought to earn promotion last season and stressed their desire to take on Pompey.
Evans also insists that previous season his side defied the odds to achieve promotion and stressed that they intend to do so this season too.
“It is a real tough one for us on Saturday, but it is another big reason why we got promoted”, Evans told Stevenage TV.
“It is another great benchmark and it is another brilliant game for our supporters.
“Our supporters three years ago were thinking of playing the likes of Dover Athletic and Bromley; Bromley could be in the Football League soon and that’s no disrespect to those teams, but to play Reading and Portsmouth in the space of a week, that is the reason we fought so hard to win promotion.
“That is the reason why most weekends and most Tuesdays of every game this season, we will be long way the underdogs from a neutral perspective, but we were 66-1 to win promotion last year, so we will keep trying to defy the odds.”
Stevenage won their last competitive game against Portsmouth in March 2017 and they will be determined to change the record this afternoon.
