Aston Villa are snapping Lenglet up from Barcelona on a season-long loan to bolster Unai Emery’s options at the back.

Barcelona have been trying to offload the defender throughout the summer and wanted a permanent sale.

With options limited they have agreed to loan him though and he is heading back to the Premier League, where he spent last term on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

Aston Villa will not pay his entire salary during the loan and, according to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona will pick up 25 per cent of it, with Villa paying the remaining 75 per cent.

There is not expected to be any option in the loan for Aston Villa to sign him permanently.

Aston Villa have acted following the injury to Tyrone Mings, who is looking at a lengthy absence.

Lenglet turned out no fewer than 35 times for Tottenham over the course of last season and knows the demands of the Premier League.
