Hayden is currently surplus to requirements at St James’ Park and the Magpies are on the lookout to offload him.

He had been close to a move to Sheffield Wednesday but the move eventually did not materialise.

However, with the transfer window set to shut close in a few hours time, things have started to move fast regarding Hayden’s transfer.

In fact, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Standard Liege are currently engaged in advanced negotiations with Newcastle United for Hayden.

The Belgian club’s director of football Fergal Harkin has made Hayden’s signing a priority.

Standard Liege will sign Hayden initially on a season-long loan deal but will have an option in his contract that will allow them to make the move permanent at the end of the spell.

After a poor start to the campaign wherein they have managed just two points from their opening five league matches, Standard Liege will hope Hayden to be an inspired signing, who could help in their comeback.
