Hibs decided to part ways with Lee Johnson after a disappointing start to the ongoing season that saw them fail to qualify for European competition.

Hibernian have stepped up their search for a new boss and Central Coast Mariners manager Montgomery has been linked with the job.

McManus believes that the Hibs board and fans have to show patience to let their new manager build the team through two or three transfer windows.

And the former Hibernian star added that with the strong forward line-up that Hibs already possess, a coach with an attacking mindset like Montgomery will be licking his lips to get his hands on it.

“Whoever gets the job, there needs to be a degree of patience from the board and the fans”, McManus wrote in his Daily Record column.

“If it’s Montgomery, he’s coming in from the other side of the world and has to be given a proper chance to bed into Scottish football, have a look at his staff and get his ideas across.

“You also have to give a guy two or three transfer windows to get his team in.

“In saying that, Hibs have a lot of options in the final third and I reckon Montgomery will be licking his lips when he sees Martin Boyle, Dylan Vente, Adam Le Fondre, Christian Doidge and Elie Youan.”

At the weekend, Hibs managed to register their first win in the Scottish Premiership this season against Aberdeen with a 2-0 victory over them.
