The 20-year-old left-sided player joined the Tykes on a season-long loan from Premier League side Burnley.
Dodgson scored his first goal for the League One side against Grimsby Town in an EFL Trophy tie on Tuesday in a 2-0 victory.
The 20-year-old admits that Cadden is a high-calibre player and he will be fighting with him to get his chances in the team.
“He’s a very good player and very highly-rated but I just have to fight for my place”, Dodgson told the Barnsley Chronicle.
He also insisted that his loan spell with Rochdale last season was a massive learning experience for him.
“It was a big learning experience. I got games under my belt and was very happy with how I did.
“It’s unfortunate what happened with the team but it is a good group of lads and I hope they come back to where they belong this season.
“For myself, the next step was League One and I just have to keep improving.”
Dodgson will be hoping to start on Saturday as the Tykes host Burton Albion in their next League One fixture.
