Ekwah joined Sunderland in January last season and featured 16 times in the Championship, helping the team reach the playoffs.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is a regular in Mowbray’s starting line-up and has featured in all five games in the league for Sunderland this season.

Collins thinks that Ekwah is developing brilliantly and pointed out that the player has Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray’s faith in him.

The former Black Cats star stressed that Ekwah is doing everything that is expected of him to play as a midfielder in Mowbray’s midfield and believes that the Frenchman has a bright future ahead of him.

“He is coming on really well”, Collins said on SAFC Unfiltered.

“He is getting regular football; I think he knows he is a fixture in the team.

“The manager has given him trust and it has shown in his performances.

“He is doing all the things you want from a central midfielder.

“You know, taking the ball, good feet, scoring goals, tackles flying in, so yes, he has a good future ahead of him.”

In his Black Cats last match, Ekwah scored twice against Southampton to help Sunderland to their second win in the league this season.
