Wolves reshaped their squad slowly after experiencing a quiet start to their transfer window in terms of players incoming.

Doyle came in from Manchester City on a season-long deal after Matheus Nunes completed a switch to the defending league champions.

Edwards feels that Doyle adds depth and offers a different style of play which is further boosted by his loan spells at different clubs.

He stressed that the 21-year-old’s set pieces and vicious crosses in the box add another layer of quality to the squad.

“Adding Tommy Doyle to that adds depth, competition and a different way of playing when you need to”, Edwards wrote in his Express & Star column.

“He has the experience of being out at Hamburg, Cardiff and his brilliant spell with Sheffield United last season, so this feels like the right time for him to make the next step.

“He is still young and Manchester City think the world of him.

“He is an all-round midfielder and from a possession point of view, he is very good on the ball and very technical.

“He rarely wastes a pass and has a range of passing too.

“He will go long and try through-balls.

“Doyle’s set pieces are also excellent, from corners and free-kicks.

“In wide areas, he delivers vicious crosses.

“Adding that extra quality is needed.”

Doyle will be aiming to grab the opportunity to play in the Premier League with Wolves and help O’Neil’s men to climb the top flight table.
