The 20-year-old forward is highly rated at Stamford Bridger and made two Premier League appearances before joining Sunderland on a season-long loan.
Mowbray handed Burstow his debut in Sunderland colours against QPR at the weekend, where the player impressed even though he failed to find the back of the net in the game.
Collins believes that the first challenge for Burstow is to get into the Sunderland boss’ starting line-up and he advised the attacker to build up his match fitness while getting to know his team-mates on the training ground.
The former Black Cats star added that he is aware that Burstow is scoring goals regularly on the training ground but believes now the challenge for the Chelsea starlet will be to get his first goal.
“Getting himself into the team is his first step, then it is match fitness and getting used to the lads on the training pitch”, Collins told Sunderland’s media.
“I think Tony Mowbray mentioned that he is finding the back of the net regularly in training, which is obviously a good thing and then it is going out there on a Saturday or Wednesday night down at Blackburn; can he go out there and get himself his first goal?”
Sunderland are set to take on Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday and Burstow will be eyeing a spot in the starting line-up for the game.
