The 17-year-old attacking midfielder joined Sunderland from Birmingham City this season and has started all six league games for Tony Mowbray’s side.
On Saturday, Bellingham played a crucial role in helping the Black Cats snatch a 3-1 victory over QPR at Loftus Road.
Collins pointed out that Bellingham has the tendency to get into the right areas, something that the former Sunderland star admires and stated that when the Black Cats play without a striker, the attacking midfielder is the one who gets into the box to score goals.
The former Black Cats star also added that Bellingham is a very energetic player with good composure despite being only 17 years old.
“He is getting into good areas and that is what I like about him”, Collins told Sunderland’s media.
“He has good energy and for a 17-year-old as well, he has good composure about him and time and time again, he is getting in there.
“When we have not got any recognised striker, yes, Mason Burstow played there today, but in the previous game we had no out and out number nine, so to call it, he is getting in the box; every time the ball is going up and wide he is the one making the runs there.”
Bellingham has scored two goals for Sunderland this season and he will be hoping to continue his impressive form throughout the campaign.
