The Tractor Boys have begun the season in a brilliant fashion with 15 points from six games and are in third place in the league table.

On Tuesday, Ipswich are set to travel to Hampshire to take on Russell Martin‘s Southampton, who are determined to get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats in their last two league games.

McKenna admitted that Southampton’s quality deserves respect and added that the Suffolk outfit are aware of the difficulty of the task on their hands on Tuesday.

However, the Ipswich boss stressed that his team will attack the game head-on with a plan to impose themselves on Southampton.

“It should go without saying that we need to give them the respect that their quality deserves and the quality of the player deserves as well”, McKenna told Ipswich’s media.

“At the same time, keep our bravery and confidence to go on and try to impose ourselves on the game.

“So we will be under no illusion about the scale of the task, but at the same time, we are really looking forward to it.

“It is a great game for us and one we will try to attack head-on.”

Ipswich have not beaten Southampton since November of 2007 and McKenna’s side will be hoping to change that record on Tuesday at St. Mary’s.
