Leicester signed the 20-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan from Premier League outfit Chelsea this summer.
On Wednesday, Casadei made his second start of his Leicester career against Liverpool at Anfield but failed to stop the Foxes from bowing out of the EFL Cup third round.
Piper feels that Casedei struggled in the game against Liverpool and believes that the Leicester star is lacking match fitness.
He admitted that Casedei has some real good qualities and pointed out that the midfielder has nice touch and passing abilities.
When asked about Casadei’s performance against Liverpool, Piper said on BBC Radio Leicester: “Struggled, at least a yard or two off it.
“I think he has some real qualities.
“I think you can see that he has a nice touch on the ball and is passing.
“But I do not think he is anywhere near the match fitness and he does lack a yard.”
Casedei has featured a total of eight times for Leicester so far and has an assist and a goal in his bag.
