The 25-year-old defensive midfielder spent last season with Watford on loan and he impressed with his performances.

This season, Choudhury has made eight appearances for Leicester so far, starting all three EFL Cup games for Maresca’s side.

Piper believes that Choudhury’s tackling, closing down of opponents and in possession qualities are all Premier League standard.

However, the former Leicester star pointed out that Maresca has added different qualities to the 25-year-old midfielder’s game.

“We know what Hamza’s skills are”, Piper said on BBC Radio Leicester.

“His skills are his tackling ability, his closing down ability, he works hard in possession of the ball, and his aggression.

“I would argue that those qualities are Premier League-level in Hamza Choudhury.

“I think he is really aggressive and he has that side to his game.

“Now in possession of the ball somewhere like Anfield, backed to the opposition, around the 18-yard box, taking the ball with two Liverpool players around you, in my mind, that is not Hamza Choudhury’s quality.

“But this manager has come in and he is making it his quality.”

Choudhury has started only one game so far for Leicester in the league and will be eyeing getting into Maresca’s starting line-up in the game against Blackburn Rovers.
