The 28-year-old left-back has featured 13 times for Norwich in the league this season and is a regular in the starting line-up.

On Tuesday, Giannoulis’ wayward pass at the beginning of the second half led to the first goal the Canaries conceded against Middlesbrough in a game which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

Downs was not impressed with Giannoulis’ performance and pointed to the missed pass that aided Middlesbrough’s first goal as horrendous.

The ex-Canaries defender admits that Giannoulis has pace but thinks that his defensive side of the game is not very good.

“At the moment, I am looking at the team now and I think Blimey”, Downs said on BBC Radio Norfolk.

“The players like Giannoulis, I have obviously played left-back myself, but I mean, the pass he played was horrendous!

“It was horrendous!

“What he has is great pace over five yards; he is very sharp, but again, I would still say defensively, now that we have let 24 goals, on the far post, he is not very good.”

Norwich are set to take on Sunderland this weekend and the 28-year-old left back will be desperate to help his team win the game.
