Pearson took charge of Bristol City in February 2021 on an initial short-term contract and later signed a three-year deal in April.

The 60-year-old tactician is out of contract in the summer and it has been suggested that he has yet to be offered a new contract by the Bristol City hierarchy.

Owers believes that delaying a decision regarding Pearson’s future might cost Bristol City in the next window and he pointed out that they cannot plan a transfer window under a manager with an uncertain future.

“Every week that ticks by now, he is getting close to his contract. So how long do you wait?”, Owers said on BBC Radio Bristol.

“They could say, ‘let’s get to March’ but no chance.

“You have to put something in place, I think, before the next window.

“If you are trying to recruit players, you cannot go into a window with a manager who is trying to buy players and saying, ‘Well, I could be gone down the road in two weeks’.

“You want stability.”

Bristol City are 13th in the league table with 18 points in the Championship this season and they are only two points behind West Bromwich Albion, who occupy the last playoff spot.
