QPR struggled last season against relegation and managed to survive by being just six points clear of the drop zone.

This season, QPR are again battling against relegation as they are sitting 23rd in the league table and have sacked their manager Gareth Ainsworth.

Parkin pointed out that the decision to sack Ainsworth was made after R’s 2-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion in midweek, where QPR failed to show any threat to the Baggies, who were struggling with their attacking department.

The ex-Championship forward stressed that QPR’s lack of ambition and survival-only mentality has created a negative atmosphere at the club.

“The decision probably was made prior to kick-off after the game at West Brom, which unfortunately, I had to attend last week”, Parkin said on the What The EFL podcast.

“I mean, they were set up really well, West Brom, if I can touch on that game defensively, but I mean, they posed absolutely zero threat against a team that were ninth in the table going into the game at West Brom and West Brom were toiling a little bit in the attacking sense.

“So for QPR to show such a lack of ambition and I suppose the continual kind of pointing towards this is just being about survival is just so negative when you consider that start of the season they had last year and I know that feels a long time ago now, but the majority of the squad is the same.”

QPR have quickly appointed a new manager in the form of Marti Cifuentes, who will begin his reign with the R’s game against Rotherham at the weekend.
