The Nigeria international joined the Premier League side last year from Rangers and he played 28 all-competition matches in his first season.

Southampton suffered relegation last term and now Aribo is playing in the Championship, however, his game time has been cut down massively.

Aribo has started only one of Saints’ 14 Championship matches this season; he has mostly been used as a late substitute by the boss.

Martin, however, feels that the 27-year-old midfielder adds a lot of value to the team on and off the pitch.

He insists that Aribo is a superb team-mate for the other Southampton players to work with on the training pitch and the pitch.

“Breezy [James Bree] has been an amazing teammate, same as Joe Aribo – and I have to mention Joe, sometimes I embarrass him, but he’s an incredible teammate”, Martin told the Daily Echo.

It remains to be seen if Aribo will get more minutes under his belt when Southampton visit the Den to face Millwall this Saturday.
