The shot-stopper is a Pompey youth academy product and he signed his first professional contract at Fratton Park at the age of 17.

The teenager has joined Hampshire-based outfit Gosport Borough on a season-long loan from Pompey.

The 18-year-old has become a pivotal part of the Boro and he has been the first-choice custodian at Privett Park this term.

Mousinho stressed that Steward is shining on his loan spell and that is the whole point of sending a player out on loan.

The Pompey boss also revealed that he is not intending to call Steward back early from his Gosport Borough loan spell.

“That’s the whole point of a loan”, Mousinho told The News when he was asked if he wants to recall Steward from the loan spell in January.

“We have players out on loan, Toby Steward is playing every game at Gosport and doing really well at the top of the league, that’s brilliant for him.”

Steward will be looking to keep his performance levels high in his loan spell to catch Mousinho’s eye for the upcoming season.
