The Dutch forward has struggled to make an impact at Burnley as he has been sent away from Turf Moor on multiple loan spells since he joined the club.

This season he has joined German Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim on a season-long loan and he has been a regular member of the Dutch national team squad as well.

Koeman stressed that even though Weghorst is not a pacey striker, he provides other attributes in games with his overall gameplay.

The Dutch boss also feels that the frontman has improved in his loan spells playing for Manchester United in the Premier League and playing in the Bundesliga as well.

“He has developed,” Koeman said on Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport.

“He is a great team player and he carried a lot of baggage with him in recent years.

“At United, where he had his role, and now in Germany.

“He is a striker who is very useful.

“Not a striker who is fast, but you know what Wout is good for you.”

Weghorst has been claimed to be less than happy at Hoffenheim and Turkish giants Galatasaray are exploring a January transfer window swoop.
