The Wearsiders brought in 20-year-old Semedo from Benfica in the summer to strengthen their forward department this season.

Semedo is highly rated by Sunderland’s coaching staff and has featured 12 times for the Black Cats this season so far but has yet to score a goal for Tony Mowbray’s side.

Sunderland star Neil is of the view that the 20-year-old centre forward is someone who likes to use his physical presence to his advantage to get into the opposition box.

Neil hailed Semedo as an excellent player and stated that the forward is a big target man and brilliant.

“I think Hemir is a big target man who probably needs to get his body in a little bit more and use his physical presence”, Neil told the Sunderland Echo.

“I think he’s a brilliant player, has got really good feet for a big man.”

Semedo has so far started only one game for Sunderland and he will be hoping to impress Mowbray on the training ground to get into the starting line-up for the weekend’s game against Birmingham City.
