The Villans are currently sitting second in their Europa Conference League group with nine points from four group-stage matches.

They hosted Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night and beat them by a 2-1 scoreline, but Clasie stressed that the result was not fair.

Diego Carlos scored a 61st minute header from a corner which helped Aston Villa make the scoreline 1-1 and Clasie is of the view that the corner should have never been awarded.

He admitted that it was a sour moment in the game and he told the referee about it as he immediately knew that it was not a corner.

“That is of course a sour moment”, Clasie was quoted as saying by Dutch outlet Voetbal International about the first goal from Aston Villa which came from a corner.

“It wasn’t a corner; I was immediately 100 per cent sure of that.

“I immediately said that to the referee.

“But you can’t worry too much about that, because they are already taking the corner.

“Then you are in a moment where you hesitate to talk to the referee anymore.

“The fact that he also flies into it makes it extra sad.”

Unai Emery’s men will be looking to bag at least one win or a draw from their remaining two matches in the Europa Conference League group matches to ensure qualification for the knockout stages.
