Unai Emery’s side are having a very good season as they are sitting fifth in the league table with 25 points from 12 matches.

They are also doing well in Europe as they have won three of their four group-stage matches in the Europa Conference League.

Hendrie however insisted that a lot of good teams had a bad domestic season last year and it will be difficult for the Villans to make the top six.

The ex-Villan revealed that he would be happy if his former side are able to finish seventh or eighth in the Premier League.

“There were lots of teams that were off it last season”, Hendrie said on Kammy & Ben’s Proper Football Podcast when asked about the last Premier League campaign.

“This season’s going to be different, I’d take a top-half finish.

“I don’t think we’ll finish in the top six.

“I really think that’s a big ask.

“Again, if they finished seventh, eighth, I think it’d be a really good season.”

Aston Villa will be looking to overtake fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the table when they face Spurs following the current international break.
