The 31-year-old midfielder joined Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2021 and has been a regular in the starting line-up for the Gas’ since his arrival.

On Tuesday, Finley captained Rovers in their game against Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy, but failed to help them to a victory.

Taylor stated that the midfielder consistently performs for his team and admits that Bristol Rovers need more players like Finley who can guarantee performances.

The Rovers boss also stressed that his team are lacking a certain type of character and pointed out that their performance against Crawley Town has exposed their flaws.

“He is almost a guarantee in terms of what he gives you and we need more guarantees out there, certainly down the spine of the team”, Taylor told Bristol Rovers’ media.

“I think it was there for all to see that the team were a little bit ragged and a little bit flimsy in that second half.

“We need more of a certain type of character and a certain type of player on that pitch in the important moments when it gets a little bit difficult and it certainly did that; it just exposed a few flaws.”

Bristol Rovers are on a three-match winless run after their defeat against Crawley Town and they will be aiming to bounce back against relegation-threatened Cheltenham at the weekend.
