Boss Ange Postecoglou made a number of signings during the summer transfer window, but lost talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Kane’s sale funded many of Spurs’ signings and Postecoglou led the club to a bright start to the season.

The side’s form has since stuttered under the weight of an injury crisis and Postecoglou wants to make signings in next month’s window.

And ideally, the boss would like to bring in a centre-back and an attacker.

Funds though are tight given the summer spending and it is suggested that Tottenham’s hopes of doing business may depend on offloading surplus to requirements players.

Spurs struggled to shift a number of players in the summer, with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil and Eric Dier all remaining in north London.

They may need to wheel and deal to bring in players in January, which could point towards action in the closing stages of the window.
