Newcastle United are optimistic about being able to sign Liverpool linked Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, with the player keen on the move, according to journalist Rudy Galetti

The midfielder is expected to move on from Manchester City in the new year and could even depart the Etihad on loan.

Phillips is keen on a way out of the Etihad when the January transfer window opens with multiple clubs showing interest in securing his services.

Juventus are looking to take Phillips to Turin, while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been credited with interest in the midfielder.

However, Newcastle are growing confident of signing Phillips and it is claimed there are ‘positive feelings’ around a move to St James’ Park.

It is suggested that Phillips is likely to move to Newcastle on loan, with all parties confident of an agreement in the next few days.

Whether Phillips’ other suitors will increase their efforts to sign him given Newcastle being in pole position remains to be seen.

Eddie Howe’s side currently have Sandro Tonali out through suspension and Phillips would boost their midfield options.
