Wigan Athletic are in talks to sign Brighton defender and Hearts loan star Odel Offiah on loan in the winter transfer window, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 21-year-old centre-back has been on loan at Hearts this season but has not played much football in Scotland.

He has not featured in a league game since October and Brighton are prepared to recall him from his loan stay in Edinburgh.

The defender is not part of Roberto De Zerbi’s immediate plans and the Seagulls are now seeking a new club for him in January.

It has been claimed that Wigan have come forward to show an interest in signing the centre-back.

The League One club are in talks to sign the defender on loan from Brighton until the end of the season.

If a deal is agreed upon between the two clubs, Brighton will recall Offiah from Hearts and send him to Greater Manchester with Wigan.

Wigan boss Shaun Maloney wants defensive reinforcements in January and it seems the Brighton centre-back is on his radar.

The Latics are sitting 19th in the League One standings and are looking to stay away from the relegation zone for the rest of the season.
