Bolton Wanderers have compiled a shortlist of targets if they are forced to sell Swansea City and Hull City target Dion Charles in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Bolton News.

Charles scored 27 goals in the 2023 calendar year, the best managed by a Bolton player since John McGinlay in 1994.

He is only two goals behind Blackpool’s Jordan Rhodes and Charlton’s Alfie May in the race for League One’s Golden Boot this season.

The forward’s exploits in League One have attracted the interest of clubs in the Championship.

Swansea and Hull have their eyes on him but it has been claimed that Bolton are calm about Charles’ situation at the club.

It would take a big bid to convince Bolton to sell him in January but the club are prepared for that eventuality.

The League One club do not want to sell him but they have made the pragmatic call to have a shortlist ready.

Bolton boss Ivan Evatt and recruitment chief Chris Markham have created a provisional shortlist of players who could be available this month.

The club want to keep hold of their best players this month to aid their push for promotion from League One.
